The countdown has officially begun for the European Universities Games Salerno 2026 as the University of Salerno prepares to welcome the finest student-athletes from across the continent. This ambitious project is the result of a strong partnership between the University of Salerno and CUS Salerno, alongside ADISURC and constitutes a transformative moment for the entire region. Between July 18 and August 1 2026, Around 4.000 participants, including student-athletes and officials, from about 40 European countries, representing nearly 400 universities, will converge on the Campania region to compete under the inspiring slogan “Passion never ends.”
The Rector of the University of Salerno, Virgilio D’Antonio, highlighted the event’s deep impact during the recent presentation at the Teatro Verdi. He stated that “EUG 2026 represents a historic opportunity for our university and the entire region” because it is not only about sport but rather a platform for “inclusion, dialogue, and intercultural growth” for thousands of young people. This vision assures that the Games serve as a driver of social development and international cooperation.
The sporting programme will be held across a distributed network of venues that integrates the Fisciano and Baronissi campuses with the city of Salerno and several neighbouring municipalities. This logistical strategy enables the event to showcase the area’s cultural and environmental beauty to an international audience. Haris Pavletic, President of the European University Sports Association, expressed his confidence in the local organisers. He noted that “we are impressed by the teamwork between the University and local authorities” because Salerno is ready to celebrate “youth, sport, and the building of lasting friendships.”
Preparations are moving at a rapid pace to ensure that every facility and service meets the highest standards for visiting delegations. The Opening Ceremony will take place in the magnificent setting of Piazza della Libertà in Salerno, while the Closing Ceremony will be held in Piazza del Sapere on the Fisciano campus.
These moments will define the spirit of the Games and create a lasting legacy for the university residences and local infrastructure. Lorenzo Lentini, the President of CUS Salerno, confirmed that the organisational machine is now at full strength. He concluded by saying that they want to deliver an edition that remains in the hearts of all participants and proves that in Salerno, “passion never ends.”
