EUG 2026 Supervision Commission Visit in Salerno

University of Salerno, Italy, hosted a Supervision Commission Visit on November 24, 2025, where the local organisers provided updates on their progress in organising the next edition of the European Universities Games in 2026.

The delegation representing the European University Sports Association (EUSA) consisted of President Haris Pavletic, Honorary President Adam Roczek, Secretary General Matjaz Pecovnik, Treasurer Francis Cirianni, Sport Events Director Liam Smith, Education & Operations Director Sara Rozman, Sports Manager Miha Zvan, and Head of Media & Communications Salvatore Sisca.

The first day began with the official welcome from the newly elected Rector of the University of Salerno, who renewed the commitment of his academic institution in organising the best possible event, underlining his personal belief in the importance of the event and its values of inclusion, promotion of health and education through sports.

One of the many ambitions of the event organisation will be opening the city and its university campus to Europe once more, promoting the Mediterranean wellbeing, the relevance of community and networking, which sports are able to create, and the educational offer of the University.

At the same time, during the entire day, some EUSA Technical Delegates have been shown several venues and sports facilities, together with the progress of some locations already conditionally approved and on their way to being built or renovated. These site visits proved to be crucial for the finalisation of the sports and events schedule for next summer.
During the main part of the meeting at the University rectorate, the EUG 2026 Organising Committee welcomed again the EUSA delegation with a speech from Prof. D’Antonio and Mr. Lentini, and after the welcoming opening by Mr Pavletic, they started by providing a general update on their recent activities and shared further insights on the progress of preparations for the Games, presented by Mr Riggio.

CUS Salerno Secretary General Di Ruocco proceeded with an update on the main sports schedule of the event, which was discussed in the past weeks and months with the EUSA office.
Thanking the OC for all their efforts in this crucial phase of the event’s organisation, EUSA Sports Director Mr Smith introduced a reflection session on last summer’s very successful EUC 3×3 Basketball in Salerno, which proved to be a perfect test event for the organisers before the EUG competitions.

Adisurc representative Gaetano de Stefano then presented a detailed update on all the infrastructure schemes, displaying the potential of the University of Salerno’s resources, campuses, and administrative units.
A preliminary plan of the OC organigram was presented by Mr Saverio, who underlined the renewed partnership commitment between the three souls of the “control room” of the EUG 2026: the working group is composed by the University of Salerno, CUS Salerno, and Adisurc, who will take meticulous care of all the main aspects of the organisation of such a complex event.

Vincenzo Ferrante from ADISURC presented an overview of the available accommodation types, highlighting flexible options to meet participants’ diverse needs. Erminia Solomita, also representing ADISURC, outlined the catering possibilities and emphasised the importance of providing balanced and accessible meals. Several proposals for ceremonies were introduced to ensure a memorable and well-structured event experience.

Giovanni Coraggio detailed the transportation arrangements, focusing on smooth mobility and efficient logistics. Finally, Guglielmo Mazziotti shared the volunteer plan, outlining roles, responsibilities, and support strategies to guarantee effective event operations.

To conclude the productive visit, the meeting discussed further details about the sports venues, following the Technical Delegates’ notes and remarks, and agreed on specific action points for the next weeks.

EUSA Supervision Commission thanked the local organisers and the supporting partners of EUG2026 Salerno for their efforts in preparing for the visit, as well as their preparations for the Games next summer. After the upcoming opening of the registrations, foreseen for December 2025, the next EUG 2026 events are scheduled for spring 2026, as a Supervision Meeting and NUSA Coordination Meetings.

Salerno, Italy, will host the 8th edition of the European Universities Games from July 18 to August 1, 2026, bringing together university athletes for a dynamic 15-day event.
