Final Preparations for EUG Salerno 2026
The European University Sports Association (EUSA) is pressing ahead with its preparations for the upcoming European Universities Games Salerno 2026, conducting site visits from April 10-12 and April 20-22. The time spent on location brought together EUSA Representatives and EUSA Technical Delegates to evaluate operational capability, inspect sports venues, and coordinate crucial aspects of delivering the European and University dimension of the event.
The EUSA delegation featured EUSA Director of Sports Events Liam Smith and Sports Manager Miha Zvan, alongside Technical Delegates Pascale Weiwers (Basketball), Urmo Sitsi (Handball), Tomasz Aftanski (Futsal), and Marcin Fidala (Table Tennis), as well as Technical Expert Raquel Mascarenhas (Padel) and Furki Sports Results Management Supervisor Marin Furcic.
Over the two visits, the groups worked closely with local organisers and technical staff to ensure the foundation aligned with EUSA standards, promoting unity and a positive university environment. These visits started with an initial round of venue inspections and meetings on April 10, which included specific planning for the Basketball and Handball competitions. The second phase kicked off on April 20 with a dedicated session on results management, an essential element for the flawless execution of the competitions.
In the afternoon, preliminary checks of the sports venues were conducted, with special emphasis on the scoreboard systems in the competition halls.
The delegations departed on April 22, representing another vital milestone on the road to the Games. The inspections provided valuable insights into the current level of preparation, enabling targeted follow-up steps to ensure the best possible conditions for all student-athletes and officials.
Throughout every preparatory phase, EUSA and the local Organising Committee are strengthening their partnership, working to ensure the successful execution of the European Universities Games Salerno 2026.
The next major checkpoint before the event will be the EUG 2026 NUSA Coordination Meeting, scheduled for May 12-13.
