EUG 2026 Convention: Salerno welcomes the European University Sports community
From May 29 to 31, 2025, Salerno proudly hosted the official Convention in preparation for the European Universities Games 2026, bringing together key institutional and technical stakeholders in an intense and productive three-day working session.
A shared vision for EUG 2026
The Convention served as a strategic milestone on the road to the Games. Delegations from European university sports federations, national technical delegates, and representatives from previous and future host cities—Debrecen-Miskolc 2024, Split 2028, and Granada 2030—joined us in Salerno, underlining the collaborative and intergenerational spirit that defines the EUG network.
Together with the University of Salerno and CUS Salerno, we presented our roadmap for the organization of the Games, discussing not only the technical aspects of competitions, but also our wider vision for inclusion, sustainability, digital innovation, and youth engagement.
Technical Sessions and venue walkthroughs
The Convention opened at the Grand Hotel Salerno with parallel meetings dedicated to the various working groups. A plenary session followed, where institutional greetings and project updates were shared. The atmosphere was charged with energy and a shared commitment to deliver a memorable and impactful edition of the Games.
In the following sessions, we explored essential aspects of planning, including sports programming, accommodation and logistics, volunteer mobilization, and communication strategies. Particular attention was given to the educational dimension of the Games, which will play a central role in our programming.
On the final day, participants visited several proposed venues and facilities across the city and the university campus. The site inspections offered concrete insight into the progress of infrastructural preparations and the opportunities that Salerno offers to athletes and delegations.
Salerno is ready
The EUG 2026 Convention was not only a moment of coordination—it was a strong affirmation of our readiness and our ambition. Salerno is preparing to welcome over 5,000 student-athletes from more than 30 countries, in an event that will go beyond sports to promote the values of education, cooperation, and European identity.
We thank all participants for their contributions and look forward to continuing this journey together toward the European Universities Games 2026.
